Graham Undertakes Gruelling 1000 mile Challenge for Bowel Cancer Research – on 60th Birthday!

Graham Undertakes Gruelling 1000 mile Challenge for Bowel Cancer Research

When Graham Franklin met Brenda Collins, who had lost her husband Trevor Collins to bowel cancer, he was inspired to help her raise the final £30,000 to fund a Bowel Cancer Screening Research Project at Queen Mary University of London.

Graham, who is a keen cycling enthusiast, decided to up the ante for his 60th birthday celebrations and undertake his most gruelling challenge yet – a 1,000 mile ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats… in just 14 days!

In the lead up to this feat of physical endurance, Graham and his cycling buddy Ray Lonsdale, are preparing themselves by cycling over 2,000 miles including inclines totalling 70,000 feet to build their stamina and strength.

Graham has said of his endeavour “I am taking on this big challenge for my 60th birthday – cycling 1000 miles in 14 days to raise much needed money to improve early diagnosis of bowel cancer through this great charity. I’m sure like me you have friends battling cancers or who have had their lives cut short by a missed or late diagnosis, or who have run out of treatment options. Your support will definitely spur me on.”
